For several decades, the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries have been interested in the reconstitution of a formula from two compartmentalized steps. Lyophilisation has been the principal means of compartmentalizing one of the steps. The lyophilisate can be comprised of numerous active ingredients. This type of procedure requires the use of two small stoppered vials, one housing the lyophilisate (it can also contain a powder or liquid) and a second with the solvent to dissolve the lyophilisate or powder. The patient or consumer applies the product using the second vial.
