Tell us a bit about the brand – its heritage, its story, and its markets – and the brief for this project.
Since opening in 2018, Maybe Sammy cocktail bar has become a popular icon within the Sydney bar scene, well known for its impeccable hospitality and uniquely creative cocktail list. The Bar Brand People turned their attention to bringing the same award-winning flair, experience and inventive cocktails into their customer’s homes.
How does the design express the brand’s values? What inspired the design?
The Maybe Sammy identity and packaging was designed to represent a new and elevated arm to the group’s already popular venue; a brand that reflects the refinement and sophistication of the team’s expertise behind the bar and their growing reputation for perfectly crafted cocktails.
What is innovative or unusual about the pack?
Physical elements of the Maybe Sammy bar design were considered in the colour and material choices for the bottled cocktail packaging. The colour of the boxes reflects the deep green upholstery and interior finishes within the venue, which provide an impactful backdrop against the brass fittings.
The green and gold colours have become a synonymous with the Maybe Sammy brand, and this palette was extended across the packaging details, from the gold foil finishes to the custom outer box design.
Were any challenges faced when designing this pack?
It was imperative that the product spoke for itself, so the typeface choice needed to be simple and classic. TT Norms was selected for its timeless qualities and appropriate translation to print finishes for optimal legibility and impact.
In addition, the series features a trio of elegant 500ml bottles, with miniature 100ml versions of each cocktail. The challenge was to carefully consider every detail on the packaging and ensure the experience was extended beyond the drink aside.
